Camper Van Insurance?

Q) I have longed to try camper vaning, so I have just bought a camper van but I have a lot to learn. So I am hoping some body wil advise me, First of all with the Insurance I presume it is best to get fully Comp because the interior in some cases is worth more than the van, and is it best to insure it all year round even when you are not useing it like winter time. Or can you get alternative Insurence. The next thing is do you take down all the curtains and soft furnshing, Then is it advisable to cover the van in winter proveding you can get inside it to keep the batteries charged up.

A) In Ireland Campers are definable by law as recreational vehicles and have a very low road-tax. Mine is totally and legally insured for €350 euros a year which is maybe £200? Most Camper owners drive their vehicles through the year, many as their main vehicle. The heat generated by regular use keeps the interior fresh batteries charged and the whole vehicle in good order. If you treat a Camper like a caravan it will either break you financially or kill you literally.

Broker Deal Van Insurance Claim? Who is a fault??

Q) In April my van was stolen. The morning of the theft I reported all details to the police then to my broker who I had purchased my insurance from: In their key facts it states "In the event of a claim you must report all details to us or your insurer."My broker successfully took all the details of the theft and advised me they will pass my detils onto my insurer, but to fasten the process they gave me my insurers direct no. so I could give them all the details directly. When trying to call my insurer they advised me they could not speak to me as this is a broker deal, I must speak to my broker directly. I called my broker back and they recorded this. As far as I was concerned I had done all I needed at this point. 30days later I chased for an outcome. On this day my insurers told me they didnt not have my details on system.I gave these to them and they made me an offer, which I have in writing. I declined this. Only then they told me I did not report within 21 day and declined my claim.

A) Am I missing something here? Why didn't you contact your insurance company directly to file a claim? A broker is an agent that represents many insurance companies. He is not a claims representative for any particular insurance company.

when i set up my van insurance renewal with a new company they asked if i had 5 yrs no claims,?

Q) i said yes because i have never claimed in the past 8 yrs of me driving. i have only kept the certificates from the different companies i have insured with as proof. i had my van broke into this week,so im making a claim for a broken lock & stolen tools, the claim has gone through to sort the lock but they whant to see proof of my 5 yrs no claims before they send the money for the tools. is there any way i can get this proof ?

A) You should not have to send them proof for them to pay you - that is not a stipulation of your policy. You should ask them were exactly in your policy does it state you need to submit this information. If they want to investigate it further, that is their place - you should not have to provide the inforamation for them - you are pursuing your first party comprehensive coverage. If they continue to press you - you can always file a complaint with the department insurance that they are practicing bad faith claims handling. Tell your insurance company this is what they are considering if they are potentially holding payment you are entitled to.

cheapest business insurance for van courier?

Q) i'm looking for the cheapest business insurance i can find to use as a van parcel courier. i expect to cover around 50 thousand miles p year. i have been quoted by one company at £2625 fully comp per year. (yes i nearly fell of my chair) and £1283 by milestone insurance (fully comp) This sounds an incredible amount for insurance, is there a cheaper way? does anyone know of any cheaper insurers for van couriers? also do i need fully comp with business use, or is 3rd party fire and theft business use enough?

A) I work for an Insurance Brokers and those prices sound about right to me. Premiums for Courier insurance are normally quite high. You can go TPFT if you want to for a cheaper premium but remember if you cause an accident it will not cover repair to your vehicle. Do you really want to be left with large repair costs and no vehicle if your a courier? No. Try a company called FM Green or Tradex. Just type the names in to Google and you can get a quote and advice online.

Advice please - car insurance claim, hit by white van man, not my fault, now he's claiming I hit him?

Q) Back in May a white van man changed lanes on the dual carriageway without looking and pulled into the drivers side front wing of my car, damage not significant - probably about £500 worth, but you can't really tell it's been hit, more scraped. The other driver was very nice, apologised profusely, said the sun caught his eyes etc, and to call him if there was a problem. I immediately reported it to my insurers, not expecting any problems. Over the past 3 months this other driver has turned quite nasty with me, after having told me to get a quote and he'd pay it, he changed his mind and told me to go through the insurance. He finally reported the accident to his insurers last week, telling them that I drove into the back of him, but that I caused no damage to his vehicle - which is why he never reported it until now. My premium is due for renewal in October. Do I continue to fight this - not wanting to let him get away with it, or let it go? Might I lose my no-claims bonus? If this goes all the way through the legal process, and he's not found liable will this cost me money? Will I have to pay up for time spent by the insurers working on the case? I can't afford to lost my no-claims discount. I have legal protection, but no witnesses to the accident or the conversations he has had with me and my husband where he has admitted guilt and been apologetic.

A) Im sorry this has happened to you, its a horrible and stressful scenario. i'm going to presume you are insured fully comprehensive. Firstly, im afraid it would not be as beneficial as you think to drop your case now. Because you have already informed your ins comp, if you drop the claim, you still have to inform all ins companies if you want a quote. Any further quotes from your comp or any other will show you having a " claim with no loss of NCB". This can still have an effect on your premium. Secondly, if you do pursue this, and it is settled as a 50-50 claim (where the ins company cannot determine who is at fault), you will lose your NCB, unless it was protected. Check your ins policy forms. Thirdly, check your docs to see if you have Legal Cover. This is usually added onto a policy almost automatically and is up to a value of £50,000 - £100,000. This will pay for all your legal costs, you will not have to pay a penny (no claim ever goes over this amount so dont worry about that either). If you dont have this included, check your home insurance policy for it, you can use this too. You say your renewal is in October. If you choose not to fight this, your renewal will be based on you having had a claim even though you chose not to go through with it. As I said before, this is because you have already informed your ins comp about it. It will be at your ins comp's discretion if they are going to penalise you financially for it...they may do because they will be aware every company will. contrary to previous answers, If you choose to pursue this, your ins company will undertake a "worst case scenario" regarding your renewal premium. This means you will be sent a renewal stating you have an unsettled claim, they will reduce your NCB and increase your premium accordingly. The reason for this is that should the claim then be settled in your favour, your NCB and premium will be sorted and they will refund you all monies due to you (backdated to the start of your policy date). All ins comps do this because it is easier to refund money than it is to increase a premium and chase money , should it be settled as fault. How much does Ice Cream Van Insurance Cost (On Average Per Month)????

Q) All I want is a vague Idea....as I was thinking about starting a Ice Cream van business, but I have been told it is not worth teh money becuase insurance is so high, and I have no idea where to find a van yet and I just need a vague idea?? I need a vague Idea of the Insureance cost!

A) You can check out ice cream vans at www.catersell.co.uk there is loads for sale. My van is insured with mobilers and I pay £250 for 6 months cover and £148.50 for public liability. I think it depends on the value and your age and where you live. Mobilers have an ice cream van site where you can get a quote www.icecreamvans.co.uk

how much is a usual van insurance in the uk?

Q) My vehicle is a 1994 Ford Transit LBW 190 diesel, colour red, three seats. I paid £1000 for it including repairs, but I don't want to pay another £1000 each year for insurance. I got my EU driving license 3 years and a half ago. I think I'm missing something... someone in similar circumstances? thanks!

A) You dont say what age you are or if you have any no claims. I would have expected half of that fully comp

im need a van insurance quote but dont remember my convictions on paper license?

A) You don't need to remember it because once you provide some key identifying information, they will run a report with a national data vendor, most likely one called ChoicePoint which compiles every American's driving record. You actually can contact ChoicePoint to ask to inspect your own record to check for accuracy.

My insurance company declared my van a total loss, so I have to register it as salvaged, can anyone share how.

Q) I am wondering if it is worth all the work to register it as salvaged, this is a complicated, expensive and time consuming process to me. My van still runs the same as it did before it just has a dent over the fender. I am wondering if it is just better to let the insurance company have it now. Can anyone share their insurance company experience with me and how it worked out for them. Did your company pay for all the fees to reregister it as salvage? I have to make a decision today.

A) if u have full coverage, tell ur ins. co. that u don't want it back. u do not want a salvaged car at all.

I need help with an insurance problem with my van?

Q) My mom bought a van from a small town dealership. They gave her a 3 month warranty on the van through a company called Eagle warranty. NOW the van's transmission has went out (within the 3 months). She called the dealership and they said there is nothing they can do and the warranty company said they had nothing to do with it. WHO can my mother contact for this situation.??. other than a lawyer...like who could she report this to? She has the paperwork and etc.

A) Read your warranty....most of them don't cover transmissions on used cars. Used cars are purchased "as is," unless you have a document that specifically says otherwise. Who can your mom contact? Someone to fix the transmission...the repairs are out of her own pocket & no one else's.

How do I get car insurance for my 1972 VW Van????

Q) I can get basic coverage for my van but not full coverage. Does anyone know where i can get full coverage for this van. I drive this van more than 12000 miles a year This Van is worth over 15,000.00 thats why i want full coverage not just basic According to NADA My Van is worth upto 20,000 http://www.nadaguides.com/default.aspx?LI=1-22-1-5013-0-0-0&l=1&w=22&p=1&f=5014&y=1972&m=1215&d=5728&c=7&vi=94818&z=93003&da=1

A) We discuss this issue quite often at www.thesamba.com The answer is that it is increasingly difficult, as we put too many miles on them to qualify for "classic car" insurance, and Hagerty Insurance doesn't like us when there is a camper interior. Some have had good luck with State farm.

Would commercial insurance be necessary for my hauling van/truck? I'll only have one vehicle in the business.

Q) Since it is the only vehicle could regular insurance possibly do the job?

A) It depends on the DMV laws in your state. If your vehicle is over GVRW 10000 pounds, and will require a commercial licence to operate it, you will need commercial insurance, as a general rule. Probably a MCR permit too.

how can I find the lowest car insurance for a nissan van?

A) Geico gives the best rates, but if you are in CA, I found Progressive gives better rates than Geico, if you have good driving experience, say 10 years without any accidents.

I am buying a 2003 van, I was shopping for insurance and I need to know what coverage should I choose?

Q) NJ State

A) If is finance then the dealer should required a full coverage. Usually liability only covers when your in a accident if is at-fault it cover the other driver and gets you out of trouble. However is does not cover you. Full basic full coverage is liability and collision and other than collision ($500 deductible). It covers your car if it gets stolen, on fire, vandalize, and more.I recommend the full coverage.Believe me it will help you a lot. Specially if is a 2003.
